Guess are an American fashion brand that specializes in making jeans, dresses, shoes, watches, and various other fashion accessories. The company was formed in the 1980s by two French Morrocan brothers who set up their stores in California.

In modern-day, the Guess company has been listed on the New York stock exchange since 1996. Although the company was only started in 1981, it is now valued at over $1 billion.

Guess watches are manufactured under a licensing agreement with Sequal AG, which is the parent company of Timex. This is quite common, as fashion brands often do not want to produce their own watches, due to high levels of costs associated with watchmaking. Are Guess A Good Brand For Watches?

Guess are a brand which is probably known for their jeans, not watches. With that being said, like many other fashion brands, Guess does sell watches. Overall, their watches are not badly made for the cost. Compared to their competitors such as Emporio Armani, Tommy Hilfiger & Hugo Boss, you will often find that Guess watches are slightly cheaper, yet made to a similar standard.

How Long Do Guess Watches Last?

Guess watches will last a long time since they use Miyota (Japanese) quartz movements. These movements are reliable and accurate and are very standard in fashion watches.

You would expect the battery to last 2 years or so before it needs replacing. As for the movement, it will likely last for 15~ years. So overall the watch case, dial and band will long wear out before the watch breaks internally. Guess do not make luxury watches, but they will still last a long enough time.

Where Are Guess Watches Made?

Guess mostly uses Japanese movements in its watches. Despite this, most of the watches are made and assembled in China, due to cost reasons.

The higher quality part of the brand – Guess Collection, watches use Swiss movements. GC watches are typically far more expensive than Guess watches due to their superior movements and materials.

Are Guess Watches Expensive?

Guess watches are not expensive at all. If you check a large online retailer such as Amazon. You will find that Guess watches almost always cost under $200 and sometimes can be found under $100 (model dependent).

Once again, if Guess is compared to its competitors, this is quite a lot cheaper.

If you are to buy a Guess watch in a brick-and-mortar store, it will likely cost you significantly more. This is because the store has to pay rent, staff and business rates. Therefore they must sell the products at a higher price to cover these costs.

Secondly, if you buy a watch online, there is also a much greater chance that they have the exact model you want in stock.

How To Tell If A Guess Watch Is Real

As there are a lot of different series and models of watches made by Guess, it can be difficult to tell if your watch is real. Secondly, Guess does not use serial numbers on their watches (neither do any fashion brands) as this would be a very expensive way of tracking something which is a fashion item.

However, there are ways to tell if your Guess watch is real.

Firstly, you can check the model number. All watches made by Guess will have a model number on the case back. These numbers usually start with either the letter “G” or “W” and are a series of both numbers and letters. If you type this model number into google, you should see the exact watch that you have bought. If you don’t, it is a fake watch.

Secondly, there will be no imperfections on the dial or case of the watch (if bought new). Whilst Guess does not make high-end luxury watches, they are still a brand with a good reputation. They would never produce watches with spelling errors or mistakes anywhere on the watch. The quality control is too high for something like this to happen.

This watch is not anywhere near the quality of a Rolex, but of course, is a fraction of the price. It will be just as accurate since it is a Miyota quartz movement rather than an automatic. This Guess watch is a hybrid of many other watches. It has a very similar bezel to the Rolex GMT and 3 subdials. The subdials (from left to right) measure hours of the day, days of the month and days of the week. It has a solid jubilee-style bracelet with oversized lugs. Its 44mm case size makes it reasonably oversize for a man’s watch, but nothing like a giant from TW Steel or Invicta.

It features both a date and day of the week dial which are at the 12 and 6 o’clock positions. Men’s GC watches are typically made of higher quality materials and movements than standard Guess watches – this is no exception.
