Google Fit is without a doubt one of the best fitness tracking apps accross the board. It is compatible with almost all phones and smartwatches (with a few exceptions). Perhaps the best thing about Google Fit is that it is compatible with both WearOS for Android devices and Apple IOS. The app is regularly updated with new features added and is also fine tuned to iron out any bugs.
When using google fit, you are able to track your exercise during various different disciplines such as cyclying, running, kitesurfing and even Zumba. A full list of activities can be found here. Another great feature about the app is that you’re able to share your fitness data with other people, or conversely delete it all at any given time.
As for using Google Fit with a smartwatch, it will work properly with all of the options listed below. However, from time to time, periodic updates can cause clashes between the OS on the smartwatch and the OS on your phone. These are usually minor bugs which can be fixed with relative ease (such as a simple restart). A full troubleshooting guide is available from google here if you do happen to run into any problems.

Best Smart Watches That Work With Google Fit
Samsung Galaxy Active 2
Samsung Galaxy watches are available in a variety of different colors and are ideal for use with the Google Fit app due to the company using Android OS. One of the better features on this watch is having the ability to rotate the bezel to scroll through apps or simply change the volume on your music. This is handy if you’re either jogging or walking at pace since it can be difficult to pick the app you want with your finger.
This smartwatch would be most ideal if you’re using a Samsung phone, as you’ll easily be able to link and sync apps and data. That’s not to say this isn’t possible with any other phone, but if you’re already using a Samsung, this would make life much easier.
Citizen
The well known Japanese watchmaker Citizen are best known for their Eco-Drive watches, as well as making mechanical dive watches. Their smartwatches are good too and have a very similar design philosophy.
The Citizen CZ has pretty much everything that you would expect from a smartwatch such as a GPS and various fitness tracking applications. The watch allows you to take hands free calls and listen to music using bluetooth headphones. Lastly, the watch uses Wear OS, which is 100% ideal for Google fit, so there will not be any compatability issues accross devices.
Apple Smartwatch
Everyone will have a good understanding of what they’re getting with an Apple Smartwatch. Google Fit was made compatible with Apple IOS some time in 2019, so it certainly won’t have any problems running popular google aps in present day.
Obviously you’re always going to be paying more for an Apple product. This is really the tradeoff for a more streamlined user experience. You could choose to buy a cheaper smartwatch, but you’re not going to get as fast software and may not be able to run niche apps. There is a decent bit of variability between each smartwatch series produced by Apple, with the newest being the most expensive, albeit with the most advanced technology.
Movboi Ticwatch C2
The main selling point of the Movboi is that it uses wearOS, so is super compatible with all of the google apps including google fit. Not only this, but the watch comes with wireless bluetooth headphones meaning that you won’t have to buy expensive airpods or cheap Chinese alternatives that keep breaking.
In terms of the watch, it looks and behaves like most other smartwatches within the price range. The watch is waterproof, offers the ability to take phone calls and has an in-built GPS.
Willful Smartwatch – Budget Choice
The Willfull smartwatch is the best value for money smartwatch that you can buy. Not only is it cheap, but it is also super reliable. You are probably not going to wear this watch for anything other than fitness, but for under $50, you really cannot go wrong. In fact, other smartwatches with similar features but nicer user interfaces are selling for 5x the price of the Willfull.
Overall, this doesn’t lack too many features that any other smartwatch has, such as GPS, heart rate monitor, the ability to make phone calls or anything else. The only drawback is that you will need a fairly modern phone to use this watch. Ideally you want something that is using the latest version of android.
Fossil
Fossil have a variety of smartwatches which all function using Wear OS by google. The great thing about Fossil is that they have decades of watchmaking experience for other brands as well as themselves. You can see this in the design of their various smartwatches, since they don’t have a one size fits all policy. Instead they have various designs and color schemes which are both masculine and feminine to suit each individual.
In terms of ability, their smartwatches are pretty much run of the mill. Offering features such as heart rate monitor, speakers, google assistant and the ability to download hundreds of apps.
Garmin Vivoactive 4
Garmin Vivoactive is pretty much the #1 choice for any fitness watch. Whilst other smartwatches definitely function better as everyday watches that can be used for other things. There isn’t really too much competition when it comes to Garmin in terms of health and fitnes.
The American brand offers a variety of features which other smartwatches do not. These features include hydration levels, blood oxygen monitoring and sleep monitoring. It can do many other things too such as play music whilst you work out, but is best used as the ultimate fitness companion.
