Tommy Hilfiger was founded in 1985. It wasn’t all plain sailing for Hilfiger, who had attempted to make a clothing store at some point during the late 1970s, grown to a size of ten stores before having to file the company for bankruptcy.

This did not deter a young Hilfiger, who then moved to NYC in order to become a professional fashion designer. Things were different this time as the brand grew exponentially before the company went public in 1992. In 2006, the company went private once again when it was purchased by Apax Partners for a sum of $1.6 billion. This is where the brand remains today.

Is Tommy Hilfiger A Good Brand For Watches?

Tommy Hilfiger is a fashion brand that is best well known for its jeans, apparel, and eyewear. Therefore watches are not its priority since they are such a small amount of sales.

There is nothing wrong with Tommy Hilfiger watches per se, other than that they are a generic fashion brand. You will never find a TH watch with proprietary movements or breakthrough technology. It is simply a mass-produced watch designed to appeal to fashion buyers.

Tommy Hilfiger watches have a very similar brand reputation to their rivals such as Hugo Boss or Emporio Armani. When choosing between these brands, there really is very little in it. Typically, Tommy Hilfiger watches are more classical, less oversized, and less garish than Boss or Armani though.

Where Are Tommy Hilfiger Watches Made?

Tommy Hilfiger watches are assembled in China and use Miyota (Japanese) quartz movements. Like many other brands such as Olivia Burton, Coach, Hugo Boss, and MVMT, Tommy Hilfiger watches are licensed to Movado. This means that Tommy Hilfiger entrusts the reputable Swiss brand to develop and manufacture watches on behalf of the brand.

Are Tommy Hilfiger Watches Good Value For Money?

Tommy Hilfiger watches are pretty solid value for money. By no means are you going to get a fantastic deal when buying a branded fashion watch. Although with that being said, Tommy Hilfiger is priced in the middle of their various competitors. If you are to buy a Tommy Hilfiger watch online from a website such as Amazon, you will typically pay between $100-200. If you buy the same watch in person from a brick-and-mortar store, it’s likely you will pay double this amount of money.

Overall, $100-200 is not a particularly good price for a Miyota based quartz watch. However, you are largely paying for the brand, as a company Tommy Hilfiger is fairly well established and respected. If you like the style more than rival brands such as Boss or Coach, TH is not too bad in terms of value for money.

How Can I Tell If My Tommy Hilfiger Watch Is Real?

Since there are so many different models of Tommy Hilfiger watches produced each year, it can be difficult to keep track of which watches are real.

Therefore, it is difficult to make judgments on individual models, but there are several ways to avoid buying an obviously fake watch without realizing it.

Firstly, if the dial says “Hilfiger” or “Tommy Hilfiger” check that the lettering is not joined together and stuck onto the dial. Tommy Hilfiger’s lettering is always printed or stuck to the dial letter by letter. They do not join their lettering together to save money as Chinese copies do.

Secondly, each Tommy Hilfiger watch will have a model number on the case back. This number will typically start with the letters TH and then be followed by a series of numbers. For example – TH.000.00.000.00. You will be able to type this number into google. If a different model shows up then this should immediately flag up some problems.

Lastly, if you are able to open the case back of the watch, you can check the movement. Although Miyota movements are not expensive and easily obtainable, Chinese fakes will often cut corners even further by using their own unbranded movements. Movado (who make watches for TH) is a respectable brand and would not use Chinese quartz movements as they are too unreliable.

The Best Tommy Hilfiger Watches

Cool Sport

The cool sport is a very masculine style watch model developed by Tommy Hilfiger. As you are able to see, the watch has 3 subdials, the brand does not really produce chronograph watches and instead opts for date/day of the week measurements – which are actually quite useful compared to an old-fashioned stopwatch.

Hilfiger makes good use of the metallic color which is somewhere between unpolished stainless steel and gunmetal. The textured dial also adds to the futuristic style of the overall watch.

Curis

As one of the cheapest watches in the Tommy Hilfiger range. The Curis is one of the best value TH watches for money. It has a classic dial with a subdial displaying the seconds – a design you will often see from vintage brands such as Rotary.

Hilfiger put their own spin on this dress watch by having a textured dial which makes the watch look not too dissimilar from their jeans. Overall, this watch would be a good buy for someone looking for a watch for both smart and casual occasions. You cannot really go wrong with a solid stainless steel dress watch.

Graham

The Graham would only really be recommended for men with big wrists and thick forearms. If you fit into this category then the Graham would be a good match for you. The reason being is that the dial is 50mm wide, which is very large for a men’s watch and typically something you only see from brands such as Invicta.

With that being said, the Graham is much more subtle than most garish and oversized watches. Hilfiger has opted for a very unusual day of the week counter next to the date window. This is both stylish and practical.

Harrison

The Harrison is a good choice for those who want a smart but casual watch with something a little bit extra. In terms of layout, the dial is pretty standard for Tommy Hilfiger with 24 hour time, day of the week and date of the month subdials. The Milanese strap is a nice addition so that the watch doesn’t become too oversized or heavy compared to if it were to have a standard steel bracelet.

Decker

The two tone color scheme of the watch combines both a vintage style with the modern design of the watch. Once again, the subdials are not for chronograph measurements, but instead the more useful function of telling the day of the week and date of the month. The lugs on this watch are fairly large so it will wear a bit bigger than it looks.
