When it comes to the Casio G-Shock B5000TFG-9 series, this watch isn’t as heavily faked compared to Mudmasters or certain other models. However, it’s fair to say that many Casio watches are faked and the B5000TFG-9 is no exception. Even if there are not too many replicas out there, you can still get fooled from time to time.

This watch was originally released in 2018 and was in honor of the G-Shock’s 35th anniversary. It comes in gold, silver, and bronze colors and generally costs around $400 new but can be picked up for significantly cheaper when pre-owned. Still, if you see this around the $50 mark then you should obviously be cautious. Thankfully, the counterfeits of this watch are pretty easy to spot and aren’t as complicated as some of the other Casios on the market.

As seen, the worn bracelet shows this watch has not been plated correctly.
The button and spring bar are oversized compared to a real B5000TFG-9 and the dial is missing writing.

Ways to spot fake Casio G-Shock B5000TFG-9 watches

Strap

One of the biggest, easiest ways to identify a B5000TFG-9 watch is by looking at the strap. These are meant to be gold plated and are made with high quality which is typical of Casio. However, the fakes tend to be plated in a cheap material that rubs off over time.

Of course, even high-end watches can discolor over time, but sometimes it looks obvious and very blatant. With the example we’ve shown, practically all of the bracelet is starting to fade which proves the plating is not original. If the fake is new, this will obviously be harder to see.

Dial

Even if the watch is new, an obvious giveaway is the dial. Real B5000TFG-9’s will have small writing on the top, bottom, and sides of the dial. It should say ‘Bluetooth multiband’ on the bottom, ‘Casio tough solar’ on the top, ‘mode adjust’ on the left, and ‘set – set+’ on the right. As seen above with the replica, it lacks these writings which is a very sloppy attempt at mimicking the original watch.

Spring bar

As mentioned earlier, the strap can be a clear indicator of whether the watch is real or not. In this case, fakes of the B5000TFG-9 will sometimes have larger spring bars towards where the strap meets the dial. Whilst you can see the spring bars on the original B5000TFG-9, they are oversized on fakes which can be quite easy to see when compared with a real piece.

Buttons

Arguably, the biggest indicator of a fake B5000TFG-9 is the oversized buttons. Each corner of the case has a gold button that is used to change the watch settings and functions. On a real B5000TFG-9, you can barely see these buttons poking beyond the lug. However, in the fakes they will often stick out quite clearly.

Bluetooth

As this watch has Bluetooth capability, check it works. Many modern G-Shocks have this function, so if it can’t connect with Bluetooth then it’s a pretty clear sign that it’s a counterfeit. In fairness, sometimes a connection can break on a legitimate G-Shock but this is quite rare.
